Favorite Verses

These are some of my favorite verses. Some were sent to me by friends and family during my pregnancies or during our hospital stays. Some are from church sermons or my own reading. But all have a special place in my heart and have helped me bring me out of worry and despair, allowing me to be hopeful but also joyful, even my pain.

  • Romans 12:12 (Nora’s Life Verse)
    • Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.
  • James 1:12 (Stella’s Life Verse)
    • Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him.
  • 2 Corinthians 12:9
    • But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.
  • Matthew 11:28-30
    • “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
  • Psalms 126:5
    • Those who sow with tears, will reap with songs of joy.
  • Romans 8:38-39
    • And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.
  • Psalms 37:7
    • Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him; do not fret when people succeed in their ways, when they carry out their wicked schemes.
  • Romans 15:13
    • May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.
  • Psalms 42:5
    • Why, my soul, are you downcast? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God.
  • Romans 8:26
    • In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans.
  • 2 Corinthians 4:5-7
    • For what we preach is not ourselves, but Jesus Christ as Lord, and ourselves as your servants for Jesus’ sake. For God, who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,” made his light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of God’s glory displayed in the face of Christ. But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us.
  • Isaiah 41:13
    • For I am the Lord your God who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, Do not fear; I will help you.
  • Psalms 139:13-16
    • For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place, when I was woven together in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.
  • Psalms 139:23
    • Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts.
  • Ephesians 3:20
    • Now all glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask for or think.
